Great comments on internet equipment. I have also found great deals on used golf clubs and new golf clubs purchased in January and February. In both cases I new exactly what I was looking for. In both cases I had help from a golf Pro. The best equipment of any golfer is the 6 inches between their ears. The best money you will spend on golf (other than the greens fees) is money spent on lessons from a profesional. A good professional will not only help you to improve your ball striking; but also help by evaluating the equipment that you currently have, making sure that it is properly fit for you and will also make suggestions on equipment purchases that will fit your game and your swing.

My Pro fitted my irons to have consistent lofts between each club (when you purchasae a set of clubs off the rack of online they may not have consistant lofts); After analysing my swing he also adjusted the lie of my clubs to 1 degree upright. At the time I was playing with a set of 10 year old forged irons and the pro also suggest that I consider taking advantage of technological advances of the past few years. With these thoughts in mind I looked on the web and in equipment stores for clubs that were attractive to me. After deciding on a set that was in may price range I discussed the set with my pro and he offered to see if he could get a good price for me. To my good fortune I was able to find a set of gently used irons (the golf store assistant told me that the previous owner purchased them and after playing with them twice traded them in) that were 1 degree upright (this set of clubs would have been out of my price range if they were "brand" new.

In previous years when I did not feel the need for new clubs and was not in a position to purchse clubs I found that a new set of grips made the clubs "feel" new in my hands.
